Education at state funded institutions is usually free or highly subsidised with very nominal tuition fees. However, the private institutions do charge tuition fees for bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in Germany.

Students have to appear for English Language Proficiency Tests like IELTS (minimum score required- 6.5), TOEFL (average score required- 60-80), GRE subject test (to pursue MS in Germany with a score of around 300), GMAT (specifically to pursue MBA in Germany with an average scorecard of 640). To prove German language proficiency, test requirements can be- DSH, TestDaF, Goethe Institute Certificates, DSD.

For students seeking bachelor's degrees from German institutions, they need-

  1. To be 18 years old.
  2. To have a certified 12th-grade marksheet with 50% minimum score.
  3. To have 400 to 1600 SAT or ACT score.
  4. To receive appropriate band scores on the English proficiency test.
  5. To have documents ready like 12th class standard certificate/scorecard, transcript of grades, language proficiency proof, valid passport copies, and Statement of Purpose (SOP).

For students seeking master's degrees from German institutions, they need-

  1. To be 21 years old.
  2. To hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised institute (students who have completed a three-years degree might have to attend a preparatory course called Studienkolleg).
  3. To demonstrate English language proficiency via tests like IELTS, PTE, etc by securing minimum score required.

After the completion of studies, students can get a work visa for 18 months. One has to apply for this permit before their student visa expires. To quality, one must have proofs of successfully completed course of studies, health insurance coverage, and sufficient financial means to cover your cost of living.
