NEET UG 2026 results were declared on 17 July 2026, and lakhs of Indian students are now weighing the same question their seniors have faced for years. What is the minimum NEET score for MBBS abroad, and does your rank actually decide whether you can pursue medicine outside India?
This blog cuts through the confusion. It explains the official National Medical Commission rules, category-wise qualifying marks announced yesterday, honest country-wise options, and the FMGE numbers most consultants avoid sharing.

Why NEET Is Compulsory For MBBS Abroad
Since 2018, the NEET score for MBBS abroad has been a mandatory eligibility gate for any Indian student who wants to practise medicine in India after studying overseas. Without a valid NEET qualifying scorecard, the Indian government does not permit you to sit for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or the upcoming Next Step exam. Without clearing that, your foreign MBBS degree cannot be registered with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council.
In simple words, no NEET means no licence to practise medicine in India, no matter which university you graduated from.
Minimum NEET Score For MBBS Abroad In 2026 (Official Cutoffs)
Here is the answer nobody explains clearly. Under the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021, there is no fixed minimum NEET score required for MBBS abroad. What you need is to qualify NEET at the standard category percentile. Below are the official NEET UG 2026 qualifying cutoffs released with yesterday’s results.
| Category | Percentile | NEET 2026 Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50th percentile | 715 to 213 |
| OBC / SC / ST | 40th percentile | 212 to 177 |
| UR / EWS – PwBD | 45th percentile | 212 to 194 |
| OBC / SC / ST – PwBD | 40th percentile | 193 to 177 |
Notice that the 2026 qualifying thresholds are noticeably higher than in previous years. A General or EWS candidate now needs a minimum of 213 marks to qualify, and an OBC, SC or ST candidate needs at least 177. Any score below the applicable category threshold means the student did not qualify NEET at all, and is therefore not eligible to apply for MBBS abroad under NMC rules, regardless of what a foreign university may claim.
If you have qualified within your category, universities abroad do not set their own additional NEET cutoff. They only verify that you have a valid NEET qualifying scorecard before granting admission at an NMC compliant institution.
Your NEET score is also valid for 3 years for MBBS abroad admissions. A student who qualified NEET in 2026 can use that score for admission in 2026, 2027 or 2028.
Country Wise NEET Score Requirement And MBBS Cost In 2026
Different countries attract different NEET score levels, mostly because the tuition fees, standard of living and university reputation vary widely. Here is a realistic overview.

| Country | Recommended NEET Score Band | Total 5.5 to 6 Year Cost (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Georgia | 250 and above | 28 to 45 lakh |
| Russia | 200 and above | 22 to 35 lakh |
| Kazakhstan | 200 and above | 20 to 32 lakh |
| Kyrgyzstan | 200 and above | 18 to 28 lakh |
| Philippines | 250 and above | 30 to 45 lakh |
| Bangladesh | 350 and above | 30 to 45 lakh |
Georgia and Russia remain the most popular NMC compliant destinations because their better universities offer full English medium instruction, active FMGE preparation support, and a large Indian student community. Bangladesh, though geographically close, is competitive because most seats are given to students in the higher NEET score bands.
The FMGE Reality Check Nobody Talks About
Getting a NEET score for MBBS abroad and getting admission is the easy part. The harder part is passing FMGE and returning as a licensed doctor in India.
According to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, the overall FMGE pass rate in the June 2025 attempt was only 18.61 per cent. Out of every 100 foreign medical graduates who appeared, fewer than 20 cleared it in the first attempt.
Students who graduated from strong NMC compliant universities in Russia, Georgia and Kazakhstan consistently outperform this average because their curriculum matches Indian standards, while students from weaker or unverified universities in newer destinations are the biggest contributors to the failure rate.
So the honest advice is simple. Choose an NMC compliant university with a proven FMGE track record, not the one promising the lowest tuition fee.
